Get Your Windows Installed Before the Winter Months

The cold weather brings about more challenges for us during the installation because the area around the window is going to be more brittle. Damage from Installing New Windows in the Cold

Window installation involves more than taking out old nails and the old window, and putting in new. On top of shimming the window to make sure it is level, there is also caulking to ensure it stays put. During the winter, everything shrinks. This means that during the summer swells, your windows could be uneven or drafty.

Also, during a cold-weather installation, you have to worry about the potential of more damage to your home. Windows have wood casings in many cases. If the wood is dry and brittle, it is more likely to snap than give when taking out or putting in a window. This could increase both the time and cost of the installation. Even a few degrees above freezing can help. If you are getting vinyl windows, then the vinyl is also more brittle. This can mean cutting the vinyl so the window fits could be much more difficult.
