Would you like to do something interesting with your garage, maybe a retro garage?  It could be turned into something a bit more fun and interesting. Why not go retro and create a space where you can hang out and relax, or even get some work done.

You will find that it’s often possible to create a retro garage using DIY techniques. If you are going to be making major changes, though, such as putting up a new garage door or getting a new roof, it’s a good idea to speak with the experts.

Choose a Retro Style

First, you will need to choose a retro style or era. Today, retro can mean quite a few different things. Do you want to set up a 90s lounge area to recreate Friends or to listen to some old grunge albums? Are you looking for an 80s neon and synth atmosphere? Maybe you want to go further back in time to recreate the look of a 50s malt shop with an old jukebox. Perhaps you want it to look like an actual vintage garage complete with pinup posters.

The choice is yours, but you’ll want to make it before you start thinking about the final design, as it can make a big difference.

Flooring

What type of flooring do you want for your retro garage? Maybe some checkerboard flooring for that malt shop idea? How about some stained concrete for your 90s coffee shop? You have plenty of options, and some of the floorings can be done on your own with a little bit of work.

Décor and Accessories

Once you have in the flooring, you can start thinking about some of the décors that will help to bring the space to life. This would include decorations and posters or art for the walls, a table, countertop, bar, an arcade cabinet, old signage, etc.

The exact accessories and items you will need are going to vary based on the retro theme that you ended up choosing. Try to find items that are authentic to the era or that were actually from that era.
